Welcome!

My Story

Hi, I’m Diann.   Thanks for visiting my site.  I’m glad you found us.  🙂

About me:  I began painting just a few years ago after a serious concussion in 2017.  I couldn’t read, listen to music, watch TV as it all made my head hurt worse.   I was in pain, and bored.  So I started drawing, scribbling, doodling.  I never realized art can help brain injuries.  I first tried acrylics, but I was drawn to the peaceful washes of watercolor in 2019.   While that concussion was painful for over 3 years, I am glad it happened as it was the catalyst that started my art journey.

I soon learned, though, that while it’s easy to get started with watercolor, advancing to the next level required a little bit of help and advice… and a lot of practice.

About this website:

This site distills some of the things that I’ve picked up on my Watercolor Journey. Bits of information about colors, brushes, paper, and painting techniques. I hope that these resources help you on your journey as a watercolor artist!   And remember, it is a journey, not a destination.  Enjoy your journey.

Patreon:

I recently created a Patreon channel.   Each painting project includes reference photo, value study, outline in various sizes, color swatch, and most include step-by-step real-time video.   To subscribe or sign up for a free 7-day trial:  Patreon/DiannZimmerman

About our Facebook group:

This site is a companion site for the Facebook group, Watercolor – Beginners and Beyond.

The group is for beginners, experienced artists, and everyone in between. We host weekly painting challenges with a prize awarded to a randomly-selected winner. It is not a talent contest, it is a “let’s step out of our comfort zone and try something different” challenge.

The best part of the group is the people! Encouraging, supportive, and helpful. We are an international group representing over 100 countries.

Kindness is the group’s core value. Be kind to yourself. Be kind to others. It really is that simple.

Whether you want to learn more, solicit feedback on your art, or share your watercolor art for others to enjoy, please join the group and get to know others around the world who are on the same journey.

About other art mediums:

You may join our other Facebook groups on drawing, tiny art, acrylic, digital art.

Happy Painting!
